Video remastering

Last night I hooked up the old 8mm camcorder to the new MiniDV one, and digitized about an hour of video from our trip to the Pacific Northwest. The lack of resolution of 8mm tape was sadly apparent, but I’m going to go ahead and put together a “Director’s Cut” DVD anyway. Maybe I’ll be able to clean up the image somewhat using QuickTime filters.

Watching it all again made me realize how great it’s going to be to be able to do proper non-linear editing. For starters, I’ll take all that excess sea otter footage out and make it an extra bonus item on the DVD…

Oh yes… one nice feature of iDVD is that it can make both NTSC and PAL DVDs from the same source material. I’ll be able to send my family a native PAL DVD.
