New broom

An end and a new beginning

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. I gave it a good try, but the whole thing of 2-3 posts a day just didn’t work out. People are too attached to their walled garden social networks. With a very few exceptions, I didn’t get comments.

So, this site’s going back to being a place for things I’ve written. For the time being, I’m not going to bother with a comments system either. At some point I’ll put back some form of search facility, if only for my own use; in the mean time, there’s always Google with site:meta.ath0.com added to your query. I’ve kept all the URLs the same during the migration, but the Atom feed has a permanent redirect in place so you might need to check that your feed reader understood that.

As I wind down my posting to Facebook and get ready to abandon that cancer on society, I wonder where (if anywhere) to go next. I don’t see what the big issue is that people have with Diaspora, but apparently something about it just makes their brains hurt. I’ve seen some people head back to LiveJournal, but a Russian-owned system has to be the worst possible choice given that we’re about to get a Trump administration. Google+ is still there, and I’m still on it, but Vic Gundotra ruined its chances and it’s a toxic brand now. Twitter is finally getting rid of some of the Nazis, but it’s still a terrible place to try and discuss anything.

The most common place people mentioned to me as their place for news discussion was sites like Reddit. This has me wondering about setting up a closed private Reddit-like site for news posts. If anyone’s interested, let me know.

In the mean time, I’m on Twitter, Diaspora and Google+. More stuff here soon, I hope.
